2/10/12 STARS ABOUND AT CANAAN ASPHALT FOR 2012
Some of the areas heavy hitters will be calling Canaan Fair Speedway’s, “Awesome Asphalt” facility home again on Saturday nights in 2012. Numerous track champions and contenders will return to the newly NASCAR sanctioned facility in the small Town of Canaan, New Hampshire.
Donnie Lashua will be back to defend his Pro Stock title in 2012. Some of the division’s strongest contenders will be back including Jeremy Davis, Sulo Burbank and Cory Robert. Chris Wilk is also considering returning after a couple of bad crashes, and severe losses in Tropical Storm Irene ended his season. Walt Hammond is also returning to Pro Stock racing this year.
Two time Late Model champion, Aaron Fellows has just filed his license entry for 2012. He will have some major league challenges this season including 2011 runner-up Donnie Lashua, Chris Bergeron, Bucky Demers and NASCAR New Hampshire state champion, Wayne Helliwell Jr.
Super Street champion, Rich Dubeau is uncertain about his plans for 2012, as he has not decided which route to take. His choices are either defending his 2011 title, or moving up to the Late Model division. Several new drivers are entering the class, but keep your eye on Trever Perreault.
The Pure Stocks will have a new champion in 2012, as 2011 king, Ryan Ovitt will be a racing a Super Street on the dirt. Everyone has their work cut out in this class to catch up to the 2011 Rookie of the Year, Walter Hammond Jr., whom finished the season with five consecutive wins. Also keep your eyes on Kevin McGee, and especially Paul Sullivan if he returns in 2012.
Kristen Ashley will be taking the season off in the Bandits this year, as she heads south to attend school. This leaves the doors wide open. Matt Boucher will be the leading contender for the championship this season.
A large crop of Daredevil Youth Racers is forming, as several new names are signing up, plus several of the veterans will hit the pavement in 2012.

Canaan Fair Speedway General Manager, Dick Therrien is pleased to announce
the Super Fan Card will return to the tracks for the 2012 racing season. The Super Fan Card is a popular way for fans to earn free tickets at the Speedway’s.
We are pleased to announce that the Super Fan Card will once again be sponsored by Beard Sewer and Drain of Newport, New Hampshire. Here is how it works. Simply ask the general admission ticket seller for a FREE, Beard Sewer and Drain, Super Fan Card. Each time you go to the races at either Canaan Dirt Speedway or Canaan Asphalt Speedway, and purchase an adult, junior or senior citizen ticket, you will receive a free punch on your card. Accumulate ten punches, and then you can redeem your Beard Sewer and Drain Super Fan Card for a free general admission ticket good for any time you visit the Speedway. Free tickets are not valid for P.A.S.S. events, the Modified Racing Series, or ACT events, however you will receive a punch on your card for attending any of those special events. as a very historic day for Canaan Fair Speedway’s, “Awesome Asphalt”
facility as it officially became home of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.
Over one hundred and twenty-five race drivers, crewmembers and interested parties filed into the two meetings
at Canaan Hall to hear about the
merger of Canaan Fair Speedway and NASCAR for the first time ever
at the 1/3 mile asphalt facility.
The meetings actually started the day before, as a major press conference was held at the Residence Inn Hanover / Lebanon. This media event was well attended as media from throughout the Northeast attended, and were informed about the exciting changes coming to Canaan Fair Speedway and their new partner, NASCAR. They were able to hear about all the benefits that NASCAR provided for the racers and the Track. A festive buffet luncheon was held after the meeting at the Residence Inn meeting room.
Two meetings were held on Saturday morning. The first meeting was for all Late Model teams interested in racing at Canaan Fair Speedway in 2012. Several track regulars plus a slew of new teams listened as General Manager, Dick Therrien went through the process step by step on how the new NASCAR program would work, and all the benefits that the racers had an opportunity to receive.
“The Late Models will be our top division, our NASCAR Level 1 program for 2012, stated Therrien. The reason being that they are the fastest growing class at the track and with access to over 200 cars throughout the Northeast, this gives our drivers the chance to gain State and National recognition as NASCAR’s point system rewards drivers by the volume of cars that you compete against in your weekly feature event. The racers were very pleased and thankful for this new venture. Everyone walked away pretty excited about the upcoming season. We are headed for a very exciting off-season as well, as drivers start to commit to Canaan for 2012!”
The second meeting was an open meeting for all race teams interested in competing in the other five divisions that represent Canaan’s weekly programs. The Pro Stocks were introduced as the Level 2 program, and the Super Streets will be the Level 3 program for 2012. Everyone was introduced to the NASCAR package as well as information for classes that will not be NASCAR sanctioned in 2012.

“I am ecstatic about how well the meetings went, exclaimed Therrien. Everyone walked out of here very well informed. They were also introduced to new Devils Bowl Speedway owner, Mike Bruno. We are planning on working closely with Mike and his staff, and hopefully scheduling events for our racers at each track. The teams liked this idea, and really are looking forward to the upcoming race season. Chick, Sandy and I, are very proud of teaming up with NASCAR, and are looking forward to a long and positive relationship with the organization. NASACAR’s Bob Duvall, Kevin Nevalainen and their entire staff have been great to us, and we are excited about the future of our program”

Exciting news is flowing out of the Canaan Fair Speedway’s headquarters in the early off-season as it has been announced that the 2nd Annual $5,000 to win, ACT legal, Late Model Sportsman event will return to Canaan Fair Speedway on Saturday,
May 12, 2012. alifying.
“I am very pleased to announce that the event will be returning in 2012. It was a sellout crowd the first time, and then more fans came back for the features than on the original date in 2011, and we are hoping for bigger and better things this coming season” stated General Manager, Dick Therrien. The race was awesome as Brad Leighton led a good share of the race until he had a tire go down and coasted to a halt in turn four. Joey Pole took over from there and held off several challenges to claim the $5,000 first place prize. Fourteen drivers finished on the lead lap in the 150 green flag lap event. This year’s purse will once again be close to $20,000 with a nice payout offered for the entire field.
This is just one of the great events scheduled for Canaan Fair Speedway in 2012. The new schedule is being finalized and rules are just about ready to be posted with very few changes coming in 2012 after a very successful 2011 racing season.
